The George Washington Masonic National Memorial will host a massive four-day book sale from November 12 to 15, 2026, offering the public a rare opportunity to purchase thousands of vintage and rare hardcover volumes. Proceeds from the event will directly benefit our newly reopened research library.
Established in 1931, the Memorial’s private research library is housed on the tower’s sixth floor. To support its core mission of studying American Freemasonry and the life of George Washington, the library is clearing out a century’s worth of collected books that fall outside this specific scope.
“Now that our library is reopened, we need to part with thousands of books that don’t align with our collection’s focus,” said Shawn Eyer, the Memorial’s Managing Director of Communications and Education. “This book sale will be of great interest to any lover of great books.”
The sale will feature thousands of older hardcovers spanning history, literature, religion, science, and philosophy. Most books will be priced between $1 and $10, making it an ideal event for bibliophiles hunting for unique bindings and historical texts.
The library may be seen during the Memorial’s daily tours, and is open to researchers by appointment.
