The George Washington Masonic National Memorial Association is mourning the recent loss of its former President, Anthony P. "Tony" Wordlow, who passed away June 6.
Tony was born in 1936 in Sheridan, Wyoming. His family relocated to Rio Linda, California. Tony grew up in suburban Sacramento, studying at Grant Technical College. He married his wife, Marilyn, in 1956. Professionally, he and Marilyn owned Deason & Stim Printing.
His Masonic journey began in 1959 when he was made a Mason in Sacramento’s Tehama Lodge No. 3. He became Master of that lodge in 1970. Devoted to the Craft, he went on to serve on numerous Grand Lodge committees, and held leadership roles in the Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Shrine. He served as Grand Master of Masons in California from October 15, 1997, to October 14, 1998. The theme he selected for his term of office was "Freemasons United: An Indelible Impression."
He was elected a member of the Board of Directors in 1998, ultimately becoming President of the GWMNMA 2009 to 2011. In his thirteen years in leadership at the Memorial, Tony distinguished himself as a prudent leader and an effective promoter of the Memorial’s mission. "The George Washington Masonic Memorial is owned by the Masons of yesterday, today and tomorrow," he said. "But with ownership comes responsibility. Our role today is to ensure good stewardship of this magnificent, colossal, classical, architectural marvel erected to honor George Washington and Freemasonry and to conserve it for our brethren of tomorrow."
Tony had been mourning the loss of his beloved Marilyn for some time, and they are now reunited. Details of the memorial services for Tony and Marilyn have not yet been announced.
Please keep Most Worshipful Brother Wordlow’s loved ones in your thoughts and prayers, and remember the lifetime of good deeds of this truly devoted Freemason.
