of the United States Capitol

Saturday, February 22, 2020, 1 p.m.
Memorial Theater

We are proud to announce that internationally honored Masonic scholar S. Brent Morris will deliver a talk titled “Precursors of and Influences on the 1793 U.S. Capitol Cornerstone Ceremony,” revealing a new understanding of Washington’s role in the Masonic cornerstone ceremony of the U.S. Capitol.

Brother Morris is a retired mathematician and managing editor of the Scottish Rite Journal, and was the first American to be elected Worshipful Master of the premier research lodge, Quatuor Coronati Lodge № 2076, in London, England.

Two other historians will give talks at the symposium. Samuel Holliday, Manager of Communications and Administration at the U.S. Capitol Historical Society, will present “George Washington and the City that Bears His Name.” Michele Cohen, Curator, Architect of the Capitol, will present “George Washington’s Capitol.”

This event is free and open to the general public.
