Mourning an Injustice

The Memorial is lit in purple tonight as Alexandria pays respect to the memory of Benjamin Thomas, who was lynched at the age of 16 on Aug. 8, 1899. A historic marker documenting the lynching of Thomas was unveiled earlier this evening at King and South Fairfax Steet. The lamp post there is lit in purple in his memory, as is City Hall and the George Washington Masonic National Memorial.
